Jude’s friend dies – cold open

Jude, mourning the loss of his friend goes on a walk to buy groceries.

He walks through empty streets and hears music playing in the distance. He looks around and doesn’t notice either people or any speakers in the streets. An indian woman, also confused and in her forties, carrying shopping bags in both hands, masked up walks past him, glaring at him until he moves.

Ignoring her looks, Jude’s eye wanders upwards until he sees a man standing on his balcony. The balcony of this particular apartment block stands in stark contrast to the others. Where the others are bare and empty, with the occasional drying contraption [don’t know what they’re called], this one is decorated with tacky obviously fake plants from Kmart and those things, green hedge things that are kind of like fences. The man is wearing a fedora and swaying back and forth, rocking his hips with a microphone in one hand, in front of a makeshift karaoke booth he’s made for himself. Crooning the line “loneliness is such a waste of time” from Cry To Me by Solomon Burke.

Jude takes out his phone and starts writing a note of the scene for later as the music transitions from diegetic to non-diegetic.

Jude – First post yay
